John Holloway

John began his musical career as a boy chorister in the choir of New College, Oxford.

A music scholar at Cranleigh School, he returned to Oxford to read music, and to sing in the choir of Christ Church under Sydney Watson and Simon Preston.

As a postgraduate at the London Institute of Education John sang in the Monteverdi Choir, conducted student choirs and played the organ in city churches.

After eight years as Director of Music at Cheltenham Grammar School, now Pate’s, the bulk of John’s teaching career was as Director of Music at Wellington College in Berkshire.

Returning to Gloucestershire in 2006, John has a freelance career as conductor, composer and organist.

Alongside Cantores, he directs the summer Coast and Country Festival in Lulworth, Dorset.

John became Musical Director of the Tewkesbury and District Choral Society in 2010.

He is Director of Music at the parish churches of Upton upon Severn and Forthampton, and sits as a magistrate on the Gloucestershire Bench.
