MUSICAL DIRECTOR VACANCY

Cantores Chamber Choir are looking for a new musical director to start in September 2019 as, after a long and happy association, our current MD is retiring.

Cantores Chamber is an auditioned choir of 26 singers who love to sing a varied programme of old and new sacred and secular choral music often in 8 or more parts. We are good sight readers and enjoy the challenge of new music. Our ambition is to put on quality performances.

Cantores is primarily an a capella choir but our repertoire includes some accompanied works.

We rehearse every Wednesday from 7.30-9.30 in the Reading Room at Rendcomb College, GL7 7HA.

We are looking for someone who is an experienced conductor and choral trainer with high musical expectations, has the ability to enthuse and is able to select a varied and challenging repertoire.

We are therefore looking for a new Musical Director who:

  • Is an experienced conductor and choral trainer with high musical expectations;
  • Has the ability to enthuse;
  • Is able to select a varied repertoire;
  • Has keyboard skills for rehearsals as we only employ a rehearsal accompanist when necessary;
  • Is available to lead a weekly rehearsal in term time. We do not rehearse in the school holidays;
  • Is willing to attend a termly committee meeting.

Remuneration will be approximately £3,000 to £3,500 per year including travel expenses.

The closing date for applications is 28/2/19 and interviews and a 30 minute trial rehearsal will be held on 27/3/19 or 3/4/19 (other dates may be possible).

If you would like to apply for the position please email the Chair of the committee, Katherine Safe at ksafe@tiscali.co.uk with your CV and a covering letter outlining why you would like to be our new musical director.
