CANTORES CHAMBER CHOIR
In the Cotswolds
ABOUT US
Cantores Chamber is an auditioned choir of 30 singers who love to sing a varied programme of old and new sacred and secular choral music often in 8 or more parts. We are good sight readers and enjoy the challenge of new music. Our ambition is to put on quality performances.
Cantores is primarily an a capella choir but our repertoire includes some accompanied works.
Cantores is run by a committee which organises the concerts, venues and marketing so that the Musical Director can concentrate on the preparing the choir for musical performances of a high standard.
Above all, we are a friendly and sociable group of people who really enjoy singing together.
REHEARSALS
We currently rehearse every Wednesday in term time from 7.30-9.30pm in the Reading Room at Rendcomb College, Cirencester GL7 7HA.
PERFORMANCES
We perform three programmes a year, each programme usually being performed twice in different venues. The concerts are a cappella, but occasionally we are accompanied by an organ or a small orchestra. Occasionally we are asked to sing for special events such as carol services in Cotswold churches. In December 2022 we were invited to sing at the Ralph Vaughan Williams window dedication service at Down Ampney.
CANTABILE
To raise funds for the choir we also provide, on request, a small choir, Cantabile, for weddings and funerals. This is organised by a member of the choir.
ON TOUR
We are keen to go on tour having had a successful trip to Athens in 2022 where we performed in the German Evangelical Church and St Paul’s Anglican Church, and Brugge in 2018 where we performed in the Sint Jakobskerk.
